Go with your Gut ~ 3-day Kundalini Intensive to balance the Nabhi
Ancient scriptures (Shastras) state that ‘All yoga starts at the Navel Point’. However the navel point is not just a point, it is a radiant center of energy that distributes life throughout the human framework. Also referred to as Nabhi, a nerve plexus around the navel, it is associated with the Manipura (third) chakra.
According to Kundalini Yoga, the third chakra is the actual place of awakening the Kundalini energy. This is the fire that sets it off! This is a centre of complete transformation.
The bodily organs that correspond to this chakra involve the digestive system including both small/ large intestines (the gut) as part of the gastrointestinal system (GIT). There has been a lot of scientific research in the past 20 years or so that the perception and interpretation of our world relates to the gut and the gut-brain axis. The GIT possesses over 500 million neurons (nerve cells) and is capable of producing an array of hormones. Whatsmore, the gut has been labelled as the second brain, with 95% of the body’s serotonin (the happy hormone) found in the bowels.
When Yogi Bhajan came to the West in 1969, the strengthening and balancing of the navel point was one of the main focuses of his classes. His yogic message was that in order to get and stay in the heart center we first had to cultivate a powerful and stable base of the ‘lower triangle’ which includes the Nahbi.
With both traditional and scientific knowledge behind the importance of this lower abdomen area, the message ‘Go with the Gut’ becomes more than just an old saying. The techniques of Kundalini Yoga offer us powerful tools to help dislodge stuck emotions from our body and transmute this energy into higher frequencies, into the higher chakra centres. Anger (which uses Manipura energy) is eventually transmuted into Light. One of the most powerful ways to move out of the state of dis-empowerment into empowerment is to cultivate our own internal power and in a yogic sense, the navel center is the place to begin.
