New Year’s Eve Global Peace Meditation 2025

Chanting 108 Rounds of the Maha Gayatri Mantra in Japa Meditation for Renewal, Illumination & World Peace

with Avril Bastiansz

Join Avril for this special New Year’s Eve offering as we gather in community at Kundalini House to see out the old year and welcome the new with hearts full of light, gratitude, and hope. Together we will chant the Maha Gayatri Mantra 108 times — invoking renewal, illumination, and peace for all beings on Earth.

As one year completes and another begins, this sacred practice becomes a symbolic bridge — a moment to release what no longer serves us and to align ourselves with the higher radiance of consciousness. We honour the turning of time, the cycles of nature, and the eternal light of awareness that guides us all.

About the Practice

The Maha Gayatri Mantra, known as the great hymn of the Rig Veda, is one of the oldest and most revered Sanskrit mantras. It is a prayer to the divine light of the sun — Savitri, the giver of life and illumination — that She may awaken our intellect and guide our understanding. Each sound and syllable holds profound vibrational potency, carrying the resonance of countless generations of seekers who have chanted these words in devotion.

Japa Meditation is the meditative repetition of a mantra, traditionally practiced with mala beads. It steadies the mind, deepens concentration, regulates the breath, and tunes our vibration to the sacred. When chanted collectively, the resonance becomes magnified — a ripple of peace and light that extends beyond the self, out into the world.

108 is an auspicious number in yogic and Vedic traditions — symbolising wholeness, cosmic order, and infinite connection. Each bead on the mala marks a mantra, a moment of devotion, a heartbeat of unity.

What to Expect

5:00 PM – Arrive, settle in, and share a cup of chai
5:30 PM – Introduction and call & response chanting (3 rounds)
5:45 PM – Group Japa Meditation: 108 rounds of the Maha Gayatri Mantra
6:45 PM – Silent meditation and/or savasana for integration
7:00 PM – Closing reflection and grounding before departure

This is a deeply moving and heart-opening experience — a way to enter the new year in peace, harmony, and divine connection. Chanting soothes the nervous system, balances the Visuddha (throat) chakra, tones the vagus nerve, and helps to create new neural pathways that support clarity and calm.

You do not need to know Sanskrit to participate — simply bring your presence and your voice. The words and rhythm will soon flow naturally. For those who prefer to listen, you are warmly welcome to sit in stillness and receive the healing vibrations.
