Event Description
Step out of the usual pace of daily life and immerse yourself in five days of practical, experiential study of the Alexander Technique with David Moore and teachers from the School for F.M. Alexander Studies.
Suitable for both beginners and experienced students, this End of Year Intensive offers time and space to explore how you move, respond and organise yourself — and to discover greater ease, coordination and awareness in both everyday life and movement.
Throughout the intensive, you will explore the fundamental principles of the Alexander Technique and how habitual patterns of tension, posture and movement can influence the way we feel and function.
Rather than trying to force the body into a particular position, the Alexander Technique develops our capacity to notice unnecessary effort and habitual responses, interrupt patterns that may no longer be helpful, and discover more ease and freedom in the way we move.
The program is primarily practical and experiential, with theoretical understanding woven naturally through group classes, individual lessons, movement, partner work and guided exploration.
What’s Included
Your five-day intensive includes:
• A private 30-minute Alexander Technique lesson with David Moore each day
• Daily Alexander Technique group classes
• Smart Yoga and movement sessions applying Alexander Technique principles
• Specialist sessions exploring areas including eyes and vision and calming the nervous system
• Practical exercises, partner work and individual exploration
• Daily opportunities to apply the principles of the Technique to your own body, movement and areas of interest
A private lesson is scheduled for each participant every day. Your individual lesson times will be included in your final timetable, which will be sent approximately two weeks before the intensive begins.
Alexander Technique & Yoga
Yoga and movement form an important part of the intensive, creating an opportunity to apply the principles of the Alexander Technique while the body is in motion.
Rather than focusing simply on flexibility or achieving a particular shape, these sessions explore balance, strength, coordination, mobility and awareness, helping you notice how you organise yourself during movement and exercise.
You do not need to be an experienced yoga practitioner to participate. Injuries, physical limitations and different levels of flexibility and capacity can be accommodated so that you can work in a way that is appropriate for your body.
Who Is This Intensive For?
This intensive is suitable for both those who are completely new to the Alexander Technique and those wishing to deepen an existing practice.
It may be particularly valuable for:
• People experiencing musculoskeletal discomfort or wanting to explore habitual patterns of posture and movement
• Musicians, singers, actors, dancers and performers
• Sportspeople wanting to refine coordination, efficiency and ease of movement
• Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi and other movement teachers
