Acupuncture for Labour Induction in North Fitzroy

“Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers…. strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”
Barbara Katz Rothman

Acupuncture and supportive induction treatments can be used in the weeks leading up to birth to help prepare the body and support relaxation during late pregnancy.

These treatments are often used after your due date, but may also be supportive beforehand as part of birth preparation. Many people find them calming and grounding during a time that can feel physically and emotionally intense.

Treatments may also be used alongside medically managed births, including scheduled inductions and caesarean births, as part of broader pregnancy support.

If you have any pregnancy complications or pre-existing medical conditions, we recommend discussing treatment with your midwife, obstetrician, or doctor before booking.

Preparing for your Birth with Acupuncture

Acupuncture may be used in late pregnancy to support the body’s preparation for labour. Treatments are commonly sought when a pregnancy has gone beyond the due date, or when labour is being medically managed and additional support is desired.

Using specific acupuncture points, treatments are traditionally used to support relaxation, encourage readiness for labour, and help the body prepare for birth. We generally recommend beginning weekly treatments from around 37 weeks, depending on your individual circumstances.

Many people find these sessions calming and supportive, not only helping to prepare them physically, but emotionally for the journey ahead.

Acupressure Support for Labour

The acupuncture points used during induction and birth preparation treatments can also be applied as acupressure during labour.

We offer extended 1.5-hour appointments where your birth partner can attend and learn how to use these points throughout labour to support relaxation, grounding, and comfort.

Many people find this process supportive and empowering, allowing birth partners to feel more involved and connected during labour.

If you would like to include acupressure training during your session, please mention this when booking.
