Firstly to the next New Moon and Full Moon. The Sagittarius New Moon occurs at 9:32 am on the 13th of December at 21 degrees of that sign, symbolized as: A Child and a Dog Wearing Borrowed Eyeglasses. The reference is to the use of imagination and make-believe in anticipating higher stages of development and the value of learning through imitation. The Sagittarian Moon feels comfortable when travelling and exploring and loves a sense of freedom. Mercury goes retrograde within hours of the New Moon suggesting the wisdom of taking extra time planning to avoid delays in travel at the festive season.
The Cancer Full Moon occurs at 10:33am on the 27th of December at 5 degrees. This degree is described as At a Railroad Crossing, an Automobile is Wrecked by a Train. It describes the tragic results that are likely to occur when the individual’s will is pitted against the power of the collective will of society, resulting in a karmic readjustment. The Moon in Cancer has a natural sense of timing and feels secure when nurturing and being nurtured by others. Chiron stations direct within a couple of hours of this Full Moon bringing; with it a focus on healing and compassion. With Chiron in Aries it resonates with the theme of the pain and suffering of war.
2024 commences with Jupiter stationing direct on New Year’s Eve, consolidating an expansive party atmosphere and suggesting better time ahead in 2024. Then Mercury stations to go direct on the 2nd of January. We can anticipate significant global changes starting in 2024 with the entry of Pluto into Aquarius on the 21st of January where it will remain for 20 years. A change in Pluto’s sign marks a major shift in the focus of power within society and the area of life up for major transformation and this one is associated with much needed humanitarian and collective values. Revolutionary change was the flavour of Pluto’s last sojourn in Aquarius was from 1778 and 1798 which also witnessed a major shift from the power of the autocrat to the power of the people. This long transit can be expected to focus the zeitgeist on community, equality, feminism and liberation after the current focus on plutocracy and traditional patriarchy. It could lead to a rethinking of how authority, government, and societal systems work and an increased focus on global cooperation based on justice and mutual understanding. Long-held norms may be questioned. While these changes may happen gradually, they will likely impact how we all think and perceive the world. With Pluto in Aquarius we will be embracing the interconnectedness of all things. Pluto’s retrograde in 2024 between May and October takes it back to for one final brief sojourn back in Capricorn from the 2nd of September until the 20th of November 2024 where it completes the US Pluto return on the final degree of Capricorn (taking in the US Election). This degree of the zodiac is described as: A Secret Meeting of Those Responsible for Executive Decisions in World Affairs.
Jupiter and Uranus align every 14 years to begin a whole new cycle and will do so in 2024 (exact on the 21st of April) contributing to surprises, growth, shifts in how we think, technological innovation and foresight and insight with a future oriented focus. The potential is there for significant innovation, especially in finance, agriculture, and the environment, with the sky planets meeting in the earthiest of signs, Taurus.
Then Jupiter, planet of growth and expansion, moves into the mutable sign of Gemini on the 26th of May, where it will remain until June 2025. With Jupiter in Gemini there is a need to develop intelligence and reasoning power in order to trust in oneself and life as well as an urge to connect with a larger order that is rational and logical. We can anticipate a welcome willingness to consider different viewpoints, a time of increased communication and collaboration, intellectual exploration, and being open to new ideas and global conversations. On a global scale, Jupiter’s shift into Gemini could lead to more international cooperation, improved educational opportunities, and advancements in communication technology. These changes might encourage people from different places to share knowledge and ideas. Jupiter is retrograde in 2024 from October 9th, 2024, to February 4th, 2025, in the sign of Gemini.
Mars asserts cautiously in Capricorn from the 5th of January, later travelling forward through to Leo in November and only going retrograde in confident Leo December 2024. When Mars is in its retrograde cycle, we are forced to re-assess our current projects, our approach to getting what we want, and our desire nature. Here we tend towards introspection, hesitancy about taking action and second-guessing our instincts or our natural impulses rather than acting upon them. And there are no periods to specifically re-assess what and who we value in 2024 as Venus will be travelling forward all year.
Saturn remains in Pisces for the whole of 2024 continuing to ensure that boundaries are more fluid and ripe for change. In the Saturnian desire for practical achievement we will be learning to integrate spiritual values with material ones. Allow yourself to be creative and imaginative and you can anticipate less interference from the ego. Saturn is associated with fear and in Pisces this can manifest as a challenge to our sense of trust in our intuition. The power of healing, focused dreams and networks will be highlighted. We’re also capable of considerable effort and hard work in support and service. Saturn is retrograde in 2024 from June 29th to November 15th, 2024.
Neptune has been in its home sign of Pisces since 2011, where its influence is particularly powerful. It will reside there until early 2025, reminding us that nothing is very permanent. It is helping us to find compassion, the higher octave of love, and to understand our connection to all things. Neptune will be retrograde from the 2nd of July to the 7th of December, 2024.
The transit of the lunar nodes, points where the moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic, speaks to our inherited collective karma. We are being challenged to learn the new lessons of the futuristic North Node while releasing the resisting energy of the past through the South Node. Achieving a balance between these two opposing lunar energies is one of the critical jobs our souls face. Since July 2023 the North Node has been in Aries and this will continue through 2024, bringing a whole new collective karma narrative with a rebalancing focus on finding the inspiration and courage to support our own goals and entrepreneurial skills. Relationships plunge into a new evolutionary cycle as we work to balance our desire for autonomy with the necessity of interdependence. With Aries signifying war and its opposite Libra seeking peace, personal power and the power of love will be highlighted.
Chiron, the wounded healer, with much to teach us about being human, will remain in Aries until 2026, continuing a healing cycle centred on courage and the need to embrace our uniqueness. While healing the wounded masculine, Chiron in Aries is asking us to take on the power of individual choice and heal wounds associated with competition and identity. It is also assisting in healing our willpower while simultaneously becoming more aware of our instinctual responses.
Mercury retrogrades in 2024 occur mainly in fire signs (in Aries 1st -25th of April, in Leo 5th -28th of August and Sagittarius 25th of November to 15th of December) and will see us reviewing creativity, ideas and ambitions. As all three retrogrades make connections with Venus and Chiron in Aries suggesting that healing within relationships will be highlighted.
Finally, eclipses are powerful cosmic events known to bring about significant change. The four eclipses of 2024 include a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse in Libra on the 25th of March, a Total Solar Eclipse in Aries on the 8th of April, a Partial Lunar Eclipse in Pisces on the 17th of September and an Annular Solar Eclipse in Libra on the 2nd of October. The Total Solar Eclipse in the assertive sign of Aries on April 8, 2024, could trigger a series of significant events and changes on a global scale.
