Navigating the Dichotomies of Life: Aquarius Full Moon and Virgo New Moon by our resident Astrologer, Gil Dwyer.
With Uranus having moved into Gemini some three weeks ago, this is the time to bring back dialogue, to consider contrasting opinions and navigate the dichotomies of life. Mercury, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto are all retrograde during the course of August, with Mercury stationing to go direct on the 11th of August. These retrogrades are taking us through previous experiences, personas, actions, communications and desires so we can reflect on any necessary changes before surging forward again. This is particularly important in this time of major planetary change.
Venus moves into Cancer in the final hours of July, where there’s a need to nurture and be nurtured and to feel as part of a family in order to feel secure. Mars moves into Libra on the 7th of August where initiative and drive are tactfully and tactically directed towards balance and fairness. Venus then moves into Leo on the 26th of August where one expresses affection warmly, dramatically and enthusiastically.
The Aquarius Full Moon exactly opposes the Leo Sun at 5:54 pm on the 9th of August. Full Moons are a time to decide what, and how much of something, needs to be purged from our lives. Extraneous responsibilities and unrealistic fantasies will tend to be expunged in order to allow fresh growth. The Full Moon is at 17 degrees, symbolised as: A Watchdog Stands Guard, Protecting his Master and His Possessions. It refers to the development of the capacity to protect oneself and to safeguard one’s individual rights under complex social pressures. With the Moon in Aquarius security is associated with being able to exercise complete freedom of ideas, self expression and innovation. Mars opposes Saturn and Neptune forming challenging aspects to the Sun and Moon at this Full Moon While this makes for tension and our energy can be depleted, there is also hope and promise with Venus close to merging with Jupiter at this Full Moon.
The Sun moves into its home of Virgo in the early hours of the 23rd of August where it radiates intelligence and clean-edged vitality and one is motivated by a need to be helpful and of service in a tangible way. Later the same day the New Moon occurs at 4:06 pm in the first degree of Virgo. This degree is symbolised as: In a Portrait, the Significant Features of a Man’s Head are Artistically Emphasised. This references the capacity to picture to oneself clearly both the salient features and the overall meaning of any life situation. With the Sun and Moon in the sign of Virgo, our security is linked to service and analysis and it’s a good time to plan to declutter your life and develop healthy habits and routines. With the New Moon forming a Yod pattern with outer planets, we’re experiencing a time of potential raised consciousness. Pluto is forming a sextile with Saturn-Neptune, which in turn forms a sextile with Uranus. Though we may confront the odd block this is a powerful time to transform one’s work, health and self-care habits. We’re filled with innovative, inventive, and unusual ideas.
