Outgrowing Old Belief Systems: Gemini Full Moon and Sagittarius New Moon

December Astrology Blog by Gil Dwyer

Venus moves into Sagittarius on the first day of the month, where affection is expressed freely, enthusiastically, generously and idealistically. Saturn and Mercury have both recently turned direct bringing a renewal of focus and enabling a reprogramming of how we conceptualise our lives and choices. Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune are all still retrograde taking us through previous experiences, personas, actions and desires so we can reflect on any necessary changes before surging forward again.

This particularly active Full Super Moon exactly opposes the Sagittarius Sun at 10:13 am on the 5th of December.  At 14 degrees of Gemini it is symbolised as: Two People, Living Far Apart, In Telepathic Communication. This references the capacity to transcend the limitations of bodily existence and operate as one mind of humanity.  Full Moons are a time to decide what, and how much of something, needs to be purged from our lives. Extraneous responsibilities and unrealistic fantasies will tend to be expunged in order to allow fresh growth. The Gemini Full Moon adapts to change by using the mind and making connections.  A grand square between the lunar nodes and the Moon and Sun opens up lots of choices at this time and enables us to make a higher choice and break out of mind control when it is disconnected with intuition. It is one of a series of mutable squares between Sagittarian and Pisces planets this month taking us through a process of sitting in the unknown, developing a higher level of trust and shaking off limiting beliefs and not going back.

Neptune turns direct on the 11th of December.  With Neptune moving back into Aries for the final time in late January 2026 this is the finale of our journey through the final degree of Pisces where old dreams are subsiding and we are transitioning into new forms.  Mercury moves into Sagittarius on the 12th of December bringing a shift away from reflection to action, encouraging a release of the need to control and a trust in one’s  life path.

The  New Moon,  occurs at 12:43 pm on the 20st  of December at 29 degrees of Sagittarius. This degree is symbolised as: A Boy Mowing The Lawn Of His House On An Elegant Suburban Street.  This refers to the need to attend to everyday tasks which both ensure social worth or respectability and benefit one’s constitution and the need to maintain  social respectability. With the Sun and Moon in the sign of Sagittarius there’s a sub-conscious predisposition to question and search for meaning and an innate, broad-minded and tolerant attitude towards life. With the New Moon right on the Galactic Centre and the over a billion year old interstellar object 31/ATLAS passing the closest it will get to the earth at this time, this New Moon represents a powerful galactic reset. This may bring in significant world events and changes in world leadership to support a vision of unity consciousness.

The Sun moves into Capricorn on the 22nd of December  where creative energy is coloured by self-control, caution and traditionalism. This marks the Summer Solstice.
