Meet The Teachers: Joanna Nation
Joanna Teaches Hatha, Kundalini and Qi Gong At Kundalini House
I’m looking forward to meeting you (if we haven’t met before) and hello. You’ll see me around Kundalini House teaching Kundalini Yoga, Hatha Yoga and Integrative Qi Gong (perhaps some other classes too as my offer continues to grow). I’ve found all three have contributed in some way to my own well being and I want to share those techniques with others.
I started practicing yoga because I was looking for an activity to alleviate the stress of year 12 studies at the time. Little did I know that I’d fall in love with how it made me feel and have been practicing for more than half my life now. Yoga, meditation and moving meditations provide me with awareness and acceptance.
I was inspired to continue because it encompassed more than just physical activity which dance and other exercise already gave me. I believe I was looking for something meaningful, larger than myself, without realising it. I maintained a yoga practice on and off for 10 years, referring to it mostly in times of need, until I finally decided to begin my first teacher training in 2012. Now, the deeper I go into this journey, the more I realise how much of a ‘life saver’ yoga has been for me. It allows a safe space to explore emotional states and to read the patterns of my body. Equally it’s a practice that I can pour my full devotion into with complete surrender.
My training in Hatha Yoga, Yoga Anatomy, Kundalini Yoga, Yin, Meditation and Integrative Qi Gong has given me the tools to step out of myself and connect to something bigger (some may call this universal consciousness) along with understanding the physical, physiological and energetic realms of the body. With this knowledge, my wish is to provide others with the space to explore and understand themselves more. Our emotions, habits and behaviours can be safely observed through movement, meditation and breath work. Daily moments of connection and self-love that a regular practice provides bring clarity, stillness and silence amongst the noise, so crucial for our busy lives in remaining with truth and tenderness.
People love my classes because I provide explanations that are easy to understand. I encourage gentle self-enquiry and deep connection to self, throughout the journey of a class. I am there as a guide to allow the student an experience; my approach is grounded, effective and intuitive. I have previously studied Counselling and currently studying a Bachelor of Health Science in Western Herbal Medicine with the aim to couple ancient healing techniques with a science-based application in providing a complete system for health and well-being.
I’d like to share this quote from Patti Smith, an artist and musician, “In art and dream may you proceed with abandon. In life may you proceed with balance and stealth. For nothing is more precious than the life force and may the love of that force guide you as you go”.
Teaching Hatha Yoga since 2013, Kundalini Yoga and Qi Gong from the beginning of 2017. I’m happy knowing I will always be learning and providing a place for others to grow and learn as well.
