As of mid November Pluto is in  Aquarius and will not re-enter Capricorn for another 200 years. Many of us have been experiencing a sense of grief, urgency and impending change during the lead-up (not to mention ‘that’ election) when Pluto was making its final transit through Capricorn. We are going through a collective transition as we explore new ways of approaching long standing issues, including a welcome move towards the dismantling of social hierarchies and power sharing with Pluto in Aquarius.

December is book-ended by two New Moons. The Sagittarius New Moon is at 5:21 pm on the 1st of December at 10 degrees. This degree is symbolised as:  A Theatrical Representation of a Golden-Haired Goddess of Opportunity. This speaks to society’s efforts at dramatising the greatness of what it offers to the ambitious person, and in turn is associated with forced growth. With the Sun and Moon in the sign of Sagittarius there is a subconscious predisposition to question and search for meaning and an innate broad-minded, tolerant and buoyant attitude towards life. Venus (sensitivity to others), Mars (strong emotional reactions and ambition),  Jupiter (optimistic expansion), Saturn (restrained emotional expression) and the North Node (enhanced emotional and psychic sensitivity) are all interacting with the Sun and Moon at this New Moon.

Mars in Leo goes retrograde on the 7th of December bringing a time of doubt and encouraging a change of direction. This is a time for inner growth rather than outward displays of power. Just hours later it unites with Pluto bringing the urge to penetrate to the core of experience. Then with Ceres entering Aquarius on the 8th of December, the next few months are ideal for building a sense of community and purpose.

The Gemini Full Moon opposes the Sagittarius Sun at 8:01 pm on the 15th of December at 10 degrees, symbolised as: Children Skating Over a Frozen Village Pond, referring to the use of inhibiting circumstances for the development of character and a transcendent approach to the environment. The last full moon of 2024 brings clarity, helping to tie up loose ends and release what no longer serves. Embrace this lunar energy and commit to making space for brighter beginnings in 2025.

The Sun enters Capricorn on the evening of the 21st of  December marking the Summer Solstice and the longest day of the year.
