Osteopathy can be a great modality on its own or as an adjunct to mental health services depending one’s individual requirements.
A consultation may involve the direct treatment of the nervous system to quieten the sympathetic nervous system – what controls our fight or flight response and can cause us to stay in a stressed or anxious state. Additionally, an osteopath’s focus may be on the secondary issues that can arise with stress and anxiety, such as: muscular tension, headaches or migraines and digestive complaints.
Osteopaths also advise ways in which one can manage their pain, stress and anxiety autonomously. It’s quite often that techniques are shown during consults that one can incorporate in their day-to-day life to help decrease the bouts or the effects of stress and anxiety.
