A Forward Thinking Turning Point at a Visionary Gemini Full Moon

With the Sun and Mercury continuing their journey through Sagittarius there’s a focus on the quest for meaning, purpose and truth and a yen for travel, adventure and fun. Mars enters Sagittarius on the 14th of December for a six-week visit, igniting a fresh sense of purpose and reminding us of the need for continued tolerance in the face of extremist views and beliefs. Mercury ends its sojourn in Sagittarius on the very same day beginning its three-week stint in Capricorn. Together they create a shift in momentum and a feeling that we’re rapidly counting down to the end of the year.

The Full Moon will occur at 2:34 pm on Sunday the 19th of December, at 28 degrees Gemini which references Through Bankruptcy, Society Gives to an Overburdened Individual the Opportunity to Begin Again. This is associated with a sense of release from unbearable pressures that frees one to undertake new tasks. The recent New Moon/ solar eclipse that occurred in mid-Sagittarius was close to the Great Attractor. At this Full Moon the Sun in Sagittarius is right on the Galactic Centre, which is the rotational centre of the Milky Way. This is a powerful energetic and informational source, associated with significant downloads of information. The potential for profound cosmic downloads and spiritual upgrades at this time should not be underestimated. Jupiter rules the Sagittarius Sun and is making positive connections with both luminaries at this Full Moon thereby emphasizing its uplifting and visionary aspects.

On the 20th of December, Chiron, on a mission to heal the wounded masculine in Aries stations to turn direct after a retrograde period. On the same day Venus in Capricorn begins its retrograde journey. The latter will continue until the 30th of January and will enhance our capacity for loyalty and taking responsibility in relationships. Venus retrograde asks us to work on what holds value and meaning for us and provides an opportunity to reassess priorities and commitments. Capricorn is the archetype of the past, karmic consequences and is associated with the internal judge and solidified patterns of behaviour. This is a potent time for revisiting and reworking unfinished business from the past.

The Sun moves into serious and karmic Capricorn in the early hours of the 22nd of December marking the longest day of the year, the Summer Solstice.

The Saturn-Uranus square that has dominated the planetary zeitgeist in 2021 will become exact again for the final time on the 24th of December. So far while we have been forced to confront our fear of change, the associated social unrest has brought a strange mixing up of the two planet’s energies. The chant of freedom has been joined up with the kind of far right ideology that is intrinsically linked with the desire to oppress the other and to deny progressive change.  While this square will not become exact again, it is clear that we have far more work to do on this theme. In line with this the two planets will sail along coming close to the square for a few months in the second half of 2022. Here’s hoping for further progress on the awakening to humanity’s connection with mother earth and away from all the destruction.

Venus retrograde conjunct Pluto on Christmas Day underscores the fact that reality has changed in a significant and lasting way. Then Jupiter leaves Aquarius for Pisces on the 30th of December. More on this in the next column, which will be an overview of what to expect in the stars in 2022. Suffice to say, optimistic Jupiter in visionary Pisces is open to the spiritual dimension of experience and seeks to grow through generosity of spirit.
