Finding Deep Stillness in Nature at the Taurus New Moon

May begins with a reminder of the lurking Saturn-Uranus square—the astrological signature for 2021—as the Sun interacts with Uranus, and shortly after with Saturn, in the first few days of May. While the square between these two planets will not be exact for the second time until mid-June, it is hard to ignore the rumblings of this battle between old and new during this releasing and healing time. The forces of change are driving an evolution which, while incorporating brilliant new ideas, must address our responsibilities and the related karmic consequences.

Mercury moves into Gemini on the 4th of May, where it will stay for almost two months—inclusive of the next retrograde cycle—promoting curious and activated minds and friendly interactions. Venus also moves into Gemini on the 9th of May, linking pleasure with clever verbal immediacy and a flourish of ideas. This month is dynamic and karmic with the North Node meeting up with Mercury on the 11th of May and Venus on the 18th of May. We can anticipate opportunities to evolve in relation to learning, values and the narrative. The North Node represents our inherited collective purpose and karma and its presence is felt at the upcoming New Moon, signalling an upcoming, dynamic eclipse season. Weather permitting we will have an unobstructed view of the Total Lunar Eclipse and Super Full Moon in Sagittarius on the 26th of May.

The New Moon occurs at 4:59 am on the 12th of May at 22 degrees of Taurus which is characterised as A White Dove Flying over Troubled Waters. The White Dove brings messages of peace, hope and redemption and speaks to the spiritual inspiration that comes to the individual in the overcoming of crisis. It suggests that as long as we have faced emotional crisis in the right spirit all will be well. This New Moon has supportive links with both dreamy Neptune in Pisces and powerful Pluto in Capricorn, providing empowerment, inspiration and vision. The presence of Black Moon Lilith just one degree away from the Moon and the Sun gives it an instinctive, rebellious quality. The New Moon is positioned at the midpoint between Jupiter and Saturn, signalling a new vision for humanity. Uranus in Taurus is keeping things exciting and it will be important to ground yourself in nature.

Mars in Cancer is doing a dance with Chiron, Uranus and Saturn and we may internally confront the difficulty we have with forgiveness, while being encouraged to consider how to be assertive without being aggressive.

While Jupiter has not yet finished its journey through Aquarius, it moves into Pisces on the 13th of May. It won’t return to Aquarius until late July where it will remain until it re-enters Pisces for its onward journey a few days before the end of the year. We are getting a preview of the planet of expansion roaming free in spiritual, mystical Pisces. About every 14 years Jupiter and Neptune conjoin, but this time the union between the traditional and the modern ruler of Pisces will be occuring in Pisces. While this has not occurred for over a century we can anticipate a welcome widening of our sense of compassion and the knowledge that we are all one.
