Making Space for a New Healing Chapter: An Unusual Aries New Moon

The Sun’s entry into Aries on the 21st of March signalled the beginning of the Astrological Year at the Autumn Equinox and the Moon will merge with it there on the 1st of April making it especially good for taking action towards a new start. And as if we didn’t have enough war-talk, Mercury joins the Sun and Chiron in Aries on the 27th of March. Remembering that Mars is Aries ruling planet if we can avoid the urge for reckless action communication tends to be direct and confident. We can also assume a capacity to intuitively grasp essentials.

The New Moon occurs at 4:24 pm on the 1st of April at 12 degrees of Aries which is described as A Triangularly Shaped Flight of Wild Geese. This suggests joining with others on a quest or a journey with feelings of group cohesion and appreciation of the beauty of natural rhythms. In many traditions the wild goose is a mystical bird and references the transcendent soul. Cosmic order is highlighted- perhaps in sharp contrast with the social political order within a nation as represented by its ruler. There is support out there and this New Moon is very much about humanity and respect and getting on with others, but beware of being lost in the crowd or going on a wild goose chase.

The Moon and Sun are sandwiched between Mercury and Chiron at the New Moon, with Chiron less than one degree away from the luminaries. Chiron has been in Aries since 2018 and will remain there until 2026. The wounded healer and maverick in Aries is helping to heal the wounded masculine, and we are being asked to take on the power of individual choice and to heal wounds associated with competition and identity. This healing is being especially activated at the Aries New Moon and with Chiron at the same degree that it was at in June and July last year a potential new start is possible following reflection on what has changed permanently for you since that time and how you may now think quite differently about it.

With Saturn at the midpoint between Mars and Venus, all in Aquarius, at this New Moon there’s a conversation between masculine and feminine aspects of self and steady work to be done on relationships and self worth. The overall planetary pattern at this New Moon suggests a softer, more conscious and purposeful approach to the confidence and self-assertion associated with Aries.

With Jupiter and Neptune a mere two degrees apart, and approaching their rare conjunction in Pisces, it’s time to contemplate surrender and letting go of the need to control things. The incredible compassion implied by this union is already on display in the world.  Be assertive without aggression and make some bold and innovative, yet realistic, plans at this unusual Aries New Moon.
